What is Gathering Efficiencies?

Gathering Efficiencies is a poll-approved set of quality-of-life improvements for OSRS gathering skills. The poll passed in April 2026, and the changes began rolling out through the Summer Sweep-Up. Per Mod Yume's announcement on 16 September 2026, the remaining changes are expected to start rolling out from September 30 2026.

The changes span Hunter, Farming, Mining, and other gathering-adjacent mechanics. They do not increase XP rates or change the fundamental progression of gathering skills — they are all about reducing friction and removing repetitive manual steps that slow down gathering sessions.

Hunter improvements

Hunter receives the largest number of changes in this set. The headline addition is stackable net traps, which removes the need to manage individual trap items in your inventory. The log basket can now be used to make deadfall and pitfall traps, eliminating the need to manually craft them from your inventory each time.

Resetting hunter traps no longer requires picking up components — you can reset a trap in place and retrieve components without manually picking each one up. The Tackle Box receives two changes: knife and hammer can now be stored inside, and bait can be used directly from the Tackle Box without first placing it in your inventory.

  • Stackable net traps — no more managing individual trap items.
  • Log basket can make deadfall and pitfall traps.
  • Reset traps without picking up components.
  • Tackle Box: store knife and hammer inside.
  • Tackle Box: use bait directly without inventory placement.
03

Farming improvements

Farming receives three changes. The most requested is the ability to check the compost state of a farming path without inspecting it — previously, you had to click on each path to see whether it was composted, a tedious step when managing multiple patches. The change lets you see compost state at a glance.

The law rune portal distance is being reduced, making it faster to teleport between farming areas. Additionally, bonus resources from Kingdom Management will be added — a system that provides additional resources as a reward for completing Kingdom Management objectives.

  • Check compost state of farming paths without inspecting.
  • Reduced law rune portal distance.
  • Bonus resources from Kingdom Management.
04

Mining improvements

Mining receives five changes focused on Daeyalt mining and general mining efficiency. The Celestial Signet's effect will now apply to Daeyalt mining, which is a significant time-saver since Daeyalt is a high-level mining skill with long rock cooldowns. Recharging Infernal tools will be possible with Smoldering Stone, removing the need to find alternate recharge methods.

Expert mining gloves will prevent depletion on runite golems, meaning you no longer need to manage glove recharge between runite golem hits. The Wilderness diary will provide additional ore from runite golems, rewarding experienced wilderness miners. Daeyalt shards can be turned in for noted Daeyalt essence, and mining enhancers will give additional shards from mining Daeyalt.

  • Celestial Signet effect applies to Daeyalt mining.
  • Recharge Infernal tools with Smoldering Stone.
  • Expert mining gloves: no depletion on runite golems.
  • Wilderness diary: bonus ore from runite golems.
  • Daeyalt shards → noted Daeyalt essence.
  • Mining enhancers: additional Daeyalt shards.
05

Other gathering-adjacent changes

Beyond the core Hunter, Farming, and Mining changes, there are additional improvements that affect gathering sessions and adjacent systems.

Fossils can be deposited without providing your bank pin, removing a manual step from fossil mining sessions. Poison dynamite usage for Nightshade is being reduced from 3 to 1, significantly increasing efficiency for Nightshade mining. Law rune portal distance reduction also benefits other gathering trips.

  • Deposit fossils without bank pin.
  • Poison dynamite for Nightshade: 3 → 1.
  • Law rune portal distance reduction (also affects other gathering).

What Gathering Efficiencies does not change

It is worth noting what Gathering Efficiencies does not do. None of these changes increase XP rates, reduce skill level requirements, or alter the fundamental progression of gathering skills. The Celestial Signet remains a level-gated item. Mining enhancers still require specific setups. The core loop of gathering skills remains intact — these are all about reducing friction within that loop.

Some changes require specific equipment or setup: the Celestial Signet requires a high-level item, expert mining gloves require their own investment, and mining enhancers need to be set up in advance. These are not free improvements — they reward preparation.
