OSRS Farming training guide 2026: growth timers, seed XP and special patches

The Farming Guild unlocks at 45 Farming for entry, 65 for the intermediate floor and 85 for the advanced floor, which is where most of the high-tier patches sit. Growth times are fixed and fall into eight bands: 5 minutes for flowers and saplings, 10 for allotments, hops, potato cacti and seaweed, 20 for herbs and bushes, 40 for trees and mushroom spores, 80 for cacti, crystal trees and belladonna, 160 for fruit trees, 320 for spirit trees and 640 for hardwoods, redwood and Hespori. Disease can strike at any patch type including while you are offline, and it is mitigated with compost, watering and gardeners rather than prevented entirely. Seed XP totals per plant range from 8 for a potato allotment up to 23,352 for a rosewood tree, with magic trees at 13,913.8 and ironwood at 20,525. Herb seeds run from 111 XP at level 9 guam to 1,995.5 at level 85 torstol. Herb profit per seed, assuming ultracompost, magic secateurs and the Farming cape for roughly 8.8 grimy herbs, peaks around 19,899.80 GP for ranarr and sits above 15,000 GP across the tier 10-to-16 band. Yields are variable and are pushed up by magic secateurs, the Farming cape and a better compost tier: herbs average about 9.5 grimy, allotments 25 to 30, bushes 15 to 20, hops 30 to 40, potato cacti 15 to 20 and seaweed about 33. Special patch and tree level gates are seaweed 23, coral 28/52/77, grape 36, mushroom 53, belladonna 63, Hespori 65, calquat 72, crystal 74, anima 76, celastrus 85, redwood 90, spirit trees 83/88/93/96, and the special trees teak 35, mahogany 55, ironwood 80 and rosewood 92.

01

The Farming Guild tiers

The Farming Guild is the reference point for most training plans because it concentrates the short-timer, high-value patches in one walled area with a bank and no travel to the outside world. You need 45 Farming to enter, 65 to access the intermediate floor and 85 to reach the advanced floor.

The practical split is: below 45 you train outside the guild on timers you can actually afford to wait for, and from 45 onwards the guild becomes the default answer. The advanced floor is where the end-game herb tiers sit, so 85 is the number that matters for a profit-oriented plan rather than a pure level-up plan.

02

Every growth duration

Growth times are fixed by patch type, not by your level, which makes them the backbone of any training plan. There are eight bands. Five minutes covers flowers and saplings. Ten minutes covers allotments, hops, potato cacti and seaweed. Twenty minutes covers herbs and bushes. Forty minutes covers trees and mushroom spores.

Eighty minutes covers cacti, crystal trees and belladonna. One hundred and sixty minutes covers fruit trees. Three hundred and twenty minutes covers spirit trees. Six hundred and forty minutes covers hardwoods, redwood and Hespori.

The planning consequence is that a 5-minute patch lets you cycle roughly 32 times in the hour and a 640-minute patch lets you cycle once. That is why lower tiers exist for training and higher tiers exist for profit.

  • 5 min: flowers, saplings.
  • 10 min: allotments, hops, potato cacti, seaweed.
  • 20 min: herbs, bushes.
  • 40 min: trees, mushroom spores · 80 min: cacti, crystal trees, belladonna.
  • 160 min: fruit trees · 320 min: spirit trees · 640 min: hardwoods, redwood, Hespori.
03

Compost, watering and disease

Every patch you plant can be upgraded by applying compost, which increases the chance of a good or great harvest and lowers the disease risk. Compost comes in tiers, and a better tier is the direct lever on both harvest quality and disease probability.

Disease can strike any patch type, and it can happen while you are offline. That is the part people underestimate: a run you log off during is not protected. The mitigations are compost, watering and gardeners, and they reduce the probability rather than removing it entirely.

Watering is the cheapest of the three and also improves the crop, so it is worth doing on nearly every patch you plant. Gardeners are the most expensive route and are worth it only on the very highest tiers where a wasted 640-minute cycle costs more than a gardener does.

04

Seed XP totals and yield modifiers

Seed XP totals per plant are what turn a training plan into a real plan. Low tiers: a potato allotment gives 8 XP to plant and 9 XP per potato harvested, a marigold sapling gives 55.5, and a jute plant gives 13 to plant plus 14.5 per harvest. Mid tiers: oak 481.3, willow 1,481.5, apple tree 1,272.5, banana tree 1,841.5, teak 7,325, papaya 6,380.4 and palm 10,509.6.

High tiers: magic tree 13,913.8, cactus 66.5 plus 374 plus 25 across its phases, crystal tree 126 plus 13,240, ironwood 145 plus 20,380 for a total of 20,525, rosewood 252 plus 23,100 for 23,352, and redwood 230 plus 22,450 for 22,680.

Herb seeds give a fixed total per patch and run from 111 XP for level 9 guam up through 1,995.5 for level 85 torstol. The full run is guam 111, marrentill 133.5, tarromin 160, harralander 213.5, ranarr 271, toadflax 342, irit 431, avantoe 546.5, kwuarm 693, snapdragon 875.5, huasca 966.5, cadantine 1,066.5, lantadyme 1,346.5, dwarf weed 1,706.5 and torstol 1,995.5.

Yields are variable rather than fixed, and three things push them up: magic secateurs, the Farming cape and a better compost tier. Average yields work out around 9.5 grimy herbs, 25 to 30 for allotments, 15 to 20 for bushes, 30 to 40 for hops, 15 to 20 potato cacti and about 33 for seaweed.

05

Special patches and trees

A number of patch types have their own level gate, separate from the guild floors. Seaweed is 23, coral runs 28 / 52 / 77 across its three tiers, grape is 36, mushroom is 53, belladonna is 63, Hespori is 65, calquat is 72, crystal is 74, anima is 76, celastrus is 85 and redwood is 90. Spirit trees gate at 83, 88, 93 and 96.

The special trees follow their own ladder: teak at 35, mahogany at 55, ironwood at 80 and rosewood at 92. The cactus is 55 and the potato cactus is 64.

These gates matter because they decide which patches are actually in your range at a given level, and they are why 85 Farming changes the game more than any other threshold in the skill.

06

Herb profit per seed

Herb farming is where Farming becomes a gold-making skill rather than a training skill, and the per-seed numbers are what you should plan around. These assume ultracompost, magic secateurs, the Farming cape and roughly 8.8 grimy herbs per patch.

The tier 10 to 16 band sits above 15,000 GP per seed across the range: ranarr 19,899.80, toadflax 17,294.40, snapdragon 18,999.80, kwuarm 16,992.20, huasca 18,289.20, avantoe 15,243, cadantine 15,583.60 and torstol 17,127.80. The low tiers round out at guam 1,891.80, marrentill 1,653.20, tarromin 1,753 and harralander 2,379.40.

Read these as the ceiling for a clean run: a derailed harvest or a diseased patch drops the real number well below these, which is exactly why compost and gardeners are part of the maths and not an optional extra.

  • Assumes ultracompost + magic secateurs + Farming cape + ~8.8 grimy herbs.
  • Ranarr 19,899.80 · Snapdragons 18,999.80 · Huasca 18,289.20.
  • Toadflax 17,294.40 · Torstol 17,127.80 · Kwuarm 16,992.20.
  • Avantoe 15,243 · Cadantine 15,583.60.
  • Low tiers: guam 1,891.80 · Marrentill 1,653.20 · Tarromin 1,753 · Harralander 2,379.40.
