OSRS MES 2.0 mobile guide: swipe-scrolling, long-press and new settings

MES 2.0 (live 3 September 2026) introduces several mobile-specific improvements. Swipe-scrolling lets you scroll tall menus by swiping instead of dragging the scroll bar — a major quality-of-life fix for menus with many entries. The edit button in the top-right corner collapses menus per-object for easier individual editing. Three new settings are available: long-press time (adjusts how long you must hold to open the menu via touch), menu spacing (controls the vertical gap between entries), and minimenu start position (whether the menu opens with its top edge under the pointer or with a specific entry under the pointer). All settings are per-device.

Key takeaways

  • Swipe-scrolling: scroll tall menus by swiping, no more dragging the scroll bar.
  • Long-press time: adjustable — find the sweet spot between accidental opens and slow response.
  • Menu spacing: control the vertical gap between entries for readability.
  • Minimenu start position: choose whether the menu top or a specific entry sits under your pointer.
  • Known mobile issues: chatbox finger-scroll may not work; Special Attack Orb on tablets needs long press.

Swipe-scrolling: the biggest mobile QoL fix

Before MES 2.0, scrolling through a tall menu on mobile required dragging the scroll bar — a fiddly action on small screens. MES 2.0 introduces swipe-scrolling: simply swipe up or down within the menu to scroll through entries, just like scrolling any other list on your phone.

This works in both normal view and edit mode. Combined with the new ability to hide individual entries (eye icon), you can keep menus short enough that scrolling is rarely needed for your most-used actions.

Three new settings explained

Long-press time controls how long you must hold the screen before the menu opens. If you frequently open menus accidentally, increase this. If you find the menu too slow to appear, decrease it. The default is a reasonable middle ground, but competitive PvM players may prefer a shorter time for faster access.

Menu spacing changes the vertical gap between entries. Larger spacing makes entries easier to tap on small screens but means fewer entries are visible at once. Smaller spacing fits more entries on screen but increases misclick risk.

Minimenu start position determines whether the menu opens with its very top edge under the pointer, or with a specific entry (usually the one you were hovering over) under the pointer. The second option can be faster because your thumb is already on the entry you want.

Edit mode tips for mobile

The edit button in the top-right corner of the menu enters edit mode, which collapses the menu per-object. On mobile, this is particularly useful because it lets you see exactly which entries belong to which NPC or object without the menu sprawling across the screen.

When configuring a new subject, use the star icon to promote your preferred action from a sub-menu to the top level. Then use the eye icon to hide any entries you never use. The result is a short, focused menu that requires minimal scrolling on mobile.

Remember: settings are saved per device, so you will need to repeat this setup on each phone or tablet you play on.

Questions players ask

Questions players ask

How do I enable swipe-scrolling in MES 2.0?+

Swipe-scrolling is enabled by default in MES 2.0. Simply swipe up or down within any tall menu to scroll — no setting needs to be toggled.

What long-press time should I use?+

Default is a good starting point. Increase it if you accidentally open menus, decrease it for faster access in PvM. Experiment to find your preference.

Does menu spacing affect performance?+

No — it only changes the visual gap between entries. Larger spacing improves tap accuracy on small screens.

Why can I not scroll the chatbox with my finger?+

This is a known launch bug with MES 2.0 on mobile. Use the chatbox buttons instead until a patch addresses it.
