OSRS Fight Caves guide 2026: all 63 waves, the Jad fight and your first fire cape

The Fight Caves is a solo members-only combat challenge in the outer TzHaar city of Mor Ul Rek, inside the Karamja volcano. You fight 63 waves of volcanic creatures, ending with the boss TzTok-Jad. It is a safe activity — dying costs no items (except for Hardcore Ironmen, who lose their status). There are no hard level requirements, but most players attempt it with at least 70 Ranged and Defence; a toxic blowpipe (75 Ranged) massively speeds up the early waves. To enter, use the 'TzHaar Fight Pit' minigame teleport or the BLP fairy ring. The 63 waves follow one of 15 spawn rotations, and the key rules are: kill Tz-Kih (bats) with ranged because they drain Prayer in melee; never melee Tz-Kek (blobs) because they recoil and split; keep Protect from Magic up for Ket-Zeks; and on wave 63, Jad stomps his feet for a Ranged attack (Prayer: Protect from Missiles) or rears up dangling his feet for Magic (Protect from Magic) — switch prayers between his animations, not after the projectile fires. At half HP Jad summons four Yt-HurKot healers; lure them away rather than killing them. Rewards: the fire cape (only the infernal cape is better as a melee cape), 8,032 Tokkul, and the pet TzRek-Jad at 1/200 (1/100 on a Jad Slayer task; another 1/200 by exchanging a cape). Since 12 August 2026 you can re-enter the cave immediately after leaving with no cooldown.

Key takeaways

  • 63 waves in Mor Ul Rek (Karamja volcano); safe activity — no item loss on death except HCIM status.
  • No hard level requirement; 70+ Ranged/Defence comfortable, toxic blowpipe (75 Ranged) ideal.
  • Use the 'TzHaar Fight Pit' minigame teleport or BLP fairy ring to enter.
  • Tz-Kih bats drain Prayer in melee; Tz-Kek blobs recoil and split — never melee them.
  • Jad: foot stomp = Ranged (Protect from Missiles), rearing up = Magic (Protect from Magic); switch between animations.
  • Rewards: fire cape, 8,032 Tokkul, pet TzRek-Jad (1/200, 1/100 on Slayer task); no re-entry cooldown since 12 Aug 2026.

What the Fight Caves are

The Fight Caves is a solo members-only combat minigame in the outer area of Mor Ul Rek, the TzHaar city inside the Karamja volcano. You fight 63 waves of volcanic creatures by yourself, ending in a boss fight against TzTok-Jad. It is the classic rite of passage for PvM: the fire cape it rewards is one of the best melee capes in the game, and only the infernal cape is strictly better.

It is a safe activity — dying in the cave costs you no items, and everything except Hardcore Ironmen keeps their gear. The catch is time and attention: a full run takes around an hour for a first-timer, and the Jad fight punishes mistimed prayers with hits of up to 97.

The wiki's Fight Caves strategy pages saw fresh updates in September 2026 (budget gear recommendations, including the new necklace of fangs for Ranged), which makes it a good moment for a full 2026 guide.

Requirements and how to get there

There are no hard level requirements, but practical minimums are around 70 Ranged and 70 Defence; the recommended weapon, the toxic blowpipe, needs 75 Ranged. Prayer is the real requirement — Protect from Missiles and Protect from Magic are essential for the later waves, and Rigour or at least Eagle Eye/Hawk Eye makes the waves far faster.

Two easy ways in: the 'TzHaar Fight Pit' minigame teleport, or the BLP fairy ring and a short run north. Both drop you close to the cave entrance in Mor Ul Rek.

Bring plenty of Saradomin brews and super restores (the classic ratio is about 3 doses of brew per 1 dose of restore), and consider an ancient mace or a POH altar to boost Prayer before you walk in. A regen bracelet doubles your passive healing.

The 63 waves and every enemy

Each wave spawns a set of monsters in one of 15 rotations (the spawn pattern of your first four waves determines your rotation). The highest-level monster of the wave spawns first, then the lower levels. Wave 43 is the rough halfway point of incoming damage, and the rotation uses fixed spawn spots — the famous Italy Rock safespot on the east side, plus Long Rock and Dragon Rock.

The monsters: Tz-Kih bats (level 22) drain Prayer while meleeing you, so kill them with ranged or hit-and-run; Tz-Kek blobs (45) recoil 1 damage when meleed and split into two level-22 versions on death; Tok-Xil (90) fight with Ranged and Melee, so Protect from Missiles if you cannot kill them fast; Yt-MejKot (180) heal themselves and nearby monsters below half HP; and Ket-Zek (360) attack with Magic and Melee for up to 54 — Protect from Magic and keep out of melee range.

The wave that decides most runs is the one with two Ket-Zeks and a wave-3 Tz-Kek spawn; that spawn position matters because Jad always appears where the wave-3 Tz-Kek spawned (also the off-coloured Ket-Zek's spot on wave 62).

  • Tz-Kih (22): drains Prayer in melee — use ranged.
  • Tz-Kek (45): recoils and splits — never melee.
  • Tok-Xil (90): Ranged+Melee, Protect from Missiles if needed.
  • Yt-MejKot (180): heals itself and others below half HP.
  • Ket-Zek (360): Magic+Melee up to 54 — Protect from Magic.
  • TzTok-Jad (702): 250 HP, max hits 95 magic / 97 melee-ranged.

The Jad fight (wave 63)

Jad has two special attacks you must pray against, and both are telegraphed by animation: he slams his feet into the ground for a Ranged attack (pray Protect from Missiles), and he rears up with his feet dangling for a Magic attack (pray Protect from Magic). His melee hits instantly with no reaction window, so stay out of melee range and never lose track of the animations.

Start the wave with Protect from Missiles already active — the ranged attack has no sound cue, while the magic attack sounds like Retribution activating. The critical timing rule: switch prayers between Jad's animations, not after the projectile is fired. Even if it has not landed yet, switching late is too late.

At 150 HP (half health), Jad summons four Yt-HurKot healers. Lure them away at long range and do not kill them — they only heal Jad if they are adjacent or within four tiles while Jad is fighting you, and killed healers respawn if Jad was fully healed. Focus back on Jad once they are lured away.

Rewards: fire cape, Tokkul and the pet

Defeating Jad awards the fire cape — untradeable, and as a melee cape only the infernal cape is strictly better — plus 8,032 Tokkul (each wave pays 2 more Tokkul than the last, so N waves = N×(N+1), plus 4,000 for killing Jad). The Elite Karamja Diary doubles Fight Caves Tokkul and grants one daily resurrection inside the cave.

The pet TzRek-Jad drops at 1/200, or 1/100 if Jad is your Slayer task, and exchanging a fire cape to TzHaar-Mej-Jal gives a second 1/200 chance. Jad can be unlocked as a Slayer task for 100 points from Duradel, Nieve or Chaeldar — a full cave then grants up to about 37,000 Slayer XP.

The Fight Caves also contributes 2 collection log items and 10 Combat Achievement tasks (50 points), so a clear keeps paying off for account progression beyond the cape.

Gear and strategy tips for 2026

The toxic blowpipe with amethyst or better darts is the standard main weapon; its venom makes safespotting meleers and magers much faster. A Saradomin godsword restores HP and Prayer proportional to damage, an ancient mace is the budget version (boost Prayer on a POH dummy before entering), and a Guthan's set lets you heal off Yt-MejKots. Void Knight equipment works well for the whole cave.

Two efficiency habits: prayer-flick Eagle Eye/Hawk Eye or Rigour only on Ket-Zeks to save prayer points, and turn off Auto Retaliate so you control every step. The logout trick still works — request logout during a wave, the wave pauses, and you log back in at the start of the next wave, which lets you regenerate Hitpoints between hard waves.

And since 12 August 2026, you can re-enter the Fight Caves immediately after leaving — no more cooldown between attempts, which makes practice runs against Jad far less punishing.
