OSRS Araxxor guide 2026: mechanics, mirrorback strategy and the Noxious halberd drop

Araxxor is the boss version of araxytes and currently the strongest Slayer boss in OSRS at combat level 890, released 28 August 2024. It lives in the Morytania Spider Cave (entrance north-east of Darkmeyer, lair through a web tunnel just north-west of the cave entrance) and can only be fought solo on a spider/araxyte Slayer task (92 Slayer to receive them; Konar quo Maten can also assign it as a boss task). The fight is venom-heavy: nine eggs (three red, three white, three green) hatch in order as you attack, and every six standard attacks a special fires based on the south-easternmost egg — red Acid Drip, white Acid Spray or green Acid Bullet — all leaving acid pools that inflict escalating venom. At 25% HP Araxxor enrages: Defence +35, attack speed drops from 6 to 4 ticks, and melee becomes a 1x3 cleave that leaves acid; stepping under Araxxor during the cleave damages it and shrinks the area to 1x1. Aranea boots negate one ranged hit every 8 ticks and one cleave hit every 20 ticks. The Mirrorback Araxyte reduces damage to Araxxor by 20% and reflects 50% of it back at you — and the 8 September 2026 update fixed the mirrorback no longer duplicating its recoil damage when Araxxor is attacked. Drops include the noxious pommel/point/blade (each 1/600, no duplicates until a full set), which combine into the Noxious halberd (two-handed slash), and the araxyte fang (1/600) that upgrades the amulet of torture into the amulet of rancour. The Nid pet is 1/3,000 (1/1,500 if you Destroy the corpse instead of Harvesting loot), with elite clues at 1/50.

Key takeaways

  • Araxxor is combat level 890 — the strongest Slayer boss in the game; solo instance, released 28 August 2024.
  • Requirements: 92 Slayer for araxyte/spider tasks plus Morytania access; Konar can assign it as a boss task.
  • Nine eggs (red/white/green) hatch as you fight; every 6 attacks a special fires — Acid Drip, Acid Spray or Acid Bullet — leaving venom pools.
  • At 25% HP Araxxor enrages: faster attacks, a 1x3 cleave, and step-under shrinks the cleave to 1x1.
  • Mirrorback reflects 50% of absorbed damage back at you; the 8 September 2026 update stopped it duplicating recoil damage.
  • Big drops: noxious halberd pieces (1/600 each), araxyte fang (1/600 → amulet of rancour), Nid pet 1/3,000 (1/1,500 on Destroy).

What Araxxor is

Araxxor is the boss version of araxytes and, at combat level 890, the strongest Slayer boss in OSRS. It was released on 28 August 2024 in the Morytania Spider Cave, and it is a solo-only instance: you cannot bring a team, and it can only be fought while on a spider or araxyte Slayer task.

Its stats are hefty: 1,020 HP, 320 Attack and Strength, 135 Defence, 190 Magic and 210 Ranged, with max hits of 38 melee, 21 magic and 34 ranged on a 6-tick attack cycle. It is fully immune to poison and venom, immune to cannons, but not immune to thralls, and it grants 1,708 Slayer XP per kill.

The fight is a mechanics check rather than a gear check: managing the egg hatches, the acid specials and the enrage phase matters more than raw DPS, which is why it stays a challenge even with end-game gear.

02

Requirements and how to reach the lair

You need 92 Slayer to receive spider or araxyte tasks, plus access to Morytania. The Morytania Spider Cave entrance is north-east of Darkmeyer; the lair itself sits behind a web tunnel just north-west of the cave entrance, with a scoreboard beside it.

Araxxor is a Slayer-boss-only kill: off-task kills do not count for loot, and the instance is solo. If you want it as a guaranteed assignment, Konar quo Maten can assign it specifically as a boss task.

Recommended prep: a venom-cure source (anti-venom+ or similar), Aranea boots to negate ranged and cleave hits, and a slash or ranged weapon you are comfortable with — the fight forces movement, so comfort matters more than a single bis item.

03

Core mechanics: eggs and acid

Nine eggs line the lair — three red, three white and three green. The first hatches after three of your standard attacks (starting from the south-easternmost egg, moving clockwise), then one hatches every six attacks. The hatchlings are Acidic, Mirrorback and Ruptura Araxytes; eggs and spawned araxytes count as on-task for the slayer helmet bonus, but spawned araxytes do not reduce your task kill count.

Every six standard attacks, Araxxor fires a special determined by the colour of the south-easternmost egg. Red is Acid Drip (acid follows your movement), white is Acid Spray (random spray toward you) and green is Acid Bullet (a straight-line projectile that leaves both a trail and a spray). All of them create acid pools that inflict venom with escalating damage, starting at 4.

The damage model matters for defence: Araxxor primarily attacks in melee, but if you are out of melee range it closes in and attacks with magic or ranged, choosing whichever targets your lower Defence roll. Aranea boots negate one ranged hit every 8 ticks — they do not block magic.

04

The enrage phase below 25% HP

At 25% health Araxxor enrages: Defence rises by 35, attack speed improves from 6 to 4 ticks, and its melee attack becomes a 1x3 cleave that leaves acid in the area. The classic counter is to step under Araxxor during the cleave — it damages the boss and shrinks the affected area to 1x1, at the cost of taking cleave damage yourself.

Aranea boots also help here: they negate one cleave hit every 20 ticks. Since the September 2024 balance pass, the self-damage from step-under during enrage is a manageable 8-12 instead of the original 25-38.

The enrage phase is where most deaths happen, so the practical advice is simple: keep anti-venom up, watch the egg colour, and commit to the step-under rhythm once you are comfortable — hesitation is worse than the cleave.

05

Mirrorback handling and the September 2026 fix

The Mirrorback Araxyte is the fight's damage gate: while it is alive, it reduces the damage Araxxor takes by 20%, absorbs that damage itself, and reflects 50% of what it absorbs back at you. Melee attacks on the mirrorback reflect 50% of the damage you deal unless countered with Vengeance.

In the 8 September 2026 update (the same patch as A Ruff Situation and Crab Quest), Jagex fixed a bug where the mirrorback duplicated its recoil damage when Araxxor was attacked. The fix removes the duplicated reflect hits, which makes the mirrorback window slightly less punishing and changes how aggressively you can push Araxxor while a mirrorback is up.

Practical takeaway: prioritise killing or handling the mirrorback quickly as before — the fix removes an unintended extra punish, not the core 20% reduction and 50% reflect, which still apply.

06

Drops: noxious halberd, rancour and the pet

The unique table rolls at 1/150: the noxious pommel, noxious point and noxious blade each drop at 1/600 (any halberd piece 1/200, no duplicates until a full set — like the Abyssal Bludgeon), and the araxyte fang at 1/600. The three pieces combine into the Noxious halberd, a two-handed slash weapon, and the fang upgrades the amulet of torture into the amulet of rancour, the best-in-slot melee amulet (86 Crafting to create).

On death you choose between Harvest (normal loot) and Destroy (forfeit loot but double the pet chance). The Nid pet is 1/3,000 normally, 1/1,500 with Destroy; elite clue scrolls drop at 1/50 (1/47 with elite combat achievements), the araxyte head at 1/250 (recolours your slayer helm), and the jar of venom at 1/1,500. Average kill value is about 44,184 GP, rising to roughly 113,619 when you account for halberd and rancour creation.

The coagulated venom tertiary always drops if you kill Araxxor in under 1:15 and do not already own one. Combat achievements add 12 tasks (60 points) for Araxxor, including speed tasks — worth grabbing alongside the pet grind.

  • Noxious halberd pieces: 1/600 each, no duplicates until full set — combine into the two-handed slash weapon.
  • Araxyte fang 1/600 → amulet of torture → amulet of rancour (best-in-slot melee amulet).
  • Nid pet: 1/3,000, doubled to 1/1,500 if you Destroy the corpse.
  • Elite clue: 1/50 (1/47 with elite CAs) · Araxyte head: 1/250 · Jar of venom: 1/1,500.

92 Slayer (to receive spider/araxyte tasks) plus access to Morytania. Konar quo Maten can also assign it as a boss task.

Can I fight Araxxor with a team?+

No — the lair is a solo-only instance, and kills only count while you are on a spider/araxyte Slayer task.

How do the acid specials work?+

Every six attacks Araxxor fires a special based on the south-easternmost egg: red Acid Drip, white Acid Spray or green Acid Bullet — all leave venom pools that scale in damage.

What changed for the mirrorback in September 2026?+

The 8 September 2026 update fixed the mirrorback duplicating its recoil damage when Araxxor is attacked; the 20% damage reduction and 50% reflect still apply.

What are the main Araxxor drops?+

Noxious halberd pieces (1/600 each) and the araxyte fang (1/600), which builds the amulet of rancour; plus the Nid pet (1/3,000), elite clues (1/50) and the araxyte head (1/250).

Should I Harvest or Destroy the corpse?+

Destroy forfeits loot but doubles the pet chance to 1/1,500; Harvest keeps normal loot at 1/3,000 pet rate. Pick Destroy only when chasing the Nid pet.
