OSRS Skotizo boss guide 2026: dark totem, mechanics, drops and the Skotos pet

Skotizo is a level 321 demon (450 HP, max hit 38) fought in an instance beneath the Catacombs of Kourend. Each attempt costs one dark totem, assembled from base, middle and top pieces dropped by Catacombs monsters (3/128 each piece, or 1/128 for a complete totem). He attacks with stab and magic, is immune to poison and venom, and has a 40% water-elemental weakness. The fight revolves around the four awakened altars in his arena: deactivate them as soon as they activate, or they heal him — since 22 July 2026 they have a 1-minute cooldown before reactivating, and the arena is smaller. Bring a demonbane weapon (Arclight is ideal), protect from magic, and aim for the no-damage kill for the 'Demon Evasion' Combat Achievement. Skotizo always drops infernal ashes and a hard clue, with ancient shards, the dark claw (1/25), the Skotos pet (1/65), jar of darkness (1/200) and rare uncut onyx (1/1,000); he is also the only source of a direct shield left half drop. Average kill value is around 163,000 gp.

Key takeaways

  • One dark totem per attempt — farm pieces from Catacombs of Kourend monsters (3/128 per piece, 1/128 full totem).
  • No Slayer level required; he counts as a black/greater demon and Catacombs task (Konar).
  • Deactivate the awakened altars or Skotizo heals — altars now have a 1-minute reactivation cooldown (22 July 2026 change).
  • Arclight (demonbane) is the core weapon; pray against magic; water-elemental weakness of 40%.
  • Always drops infernal ashes + hard clue; Skotos pet at 1/65, dark claw 1/25, jar of darkness 1/200.
  • Average kill value ~163k gp; the 'Demon Evasion' no-damage Combat Achievement is a good first CA target.

Access: farming the dark totem

Skotizo lives beneath the Catacombs of Kourend, and you can only reach him by using a dark totem on the altar in the centre of the Catacombs. Each totem grants exactly one attempt, so farming totem pieces is the core of the grind.

Dark totem pieces (base, middle and top) drop from monsters throughout the Catacombs — each piece at 3/128, with a chance of a complete totem at 1/128. Since the Catacombs are dense with standard Slayer tasks (black demons, greater demons, bloodvelds, and more), most players accumulate totems passively while doing Konar or Duradel tasks in the area.

There is no Slayer level requirement to fight Skotizo, and he counts toward black demon and greater demon Slayer tasks as well as the Catacombs of Kourend location for Konar tasks — so the fight itself feeds back into your Slayer progression.

02

Fight mechanics: the awakened altars

Skotizo is level 321 with 450 HP and a max hit of 38. He attacks with stab and magic, is immune to poison and venom, and carries a 40% water-elemental weakness — but the fight's defining mechanic is the set of awakened altars around the arena.

When an altar activates, Skotizo begins healing. Your job is to click each activated altar to deactivate it before the healing adds up. The July 2026 changes (Summer Sweep Up — Gear & PvM) made this more forgiving: deactivated altars now need a 1-minute cooldown before they can reactivate, and the arena itself was made smaller so the altar run is shorter.

The altars are also the key to the 'Demon Evasion' Combat Achievement — kill Skotizo without taking any damage — because touching an altar can put you in harm's way if you time it badly. A ring of recoil does not work here; don't rely on it.

03

Strategy and gear

Demonbane weapons are the foundation of any Skotizo setup. Arclight, charged from ancient shards (which Skotizo himself drops 1–5 of per kill), deals significantly increased damage to demons and should be your primary weapon. Bring the strongest melee gear you own, with strength-boosting jewellery and a super combat or similar potion.

Pray against his magic attack as your default, and swap to melee protection if you find yourself in his melee range during the altar runs. Keep your inventory light — the fight is an instance, so anything you don't protect goes to a grave outside on death.

With the smaller arena, the practical loop is: deactivate any active altar immediately, keep Arclight's special attack charged for burst damage, and keep your health above the 38 max hit at all times. Players comfortable with the rhythm use Skotizo as a relaxed money maker between Slayer tasks.

04

Drops, the Skotos pet and profit

Skotizo always drops infernal ashes and a hard clue scroll. Beyond that, his table is a mix of useful and spectacular: 1–5 ancient shards per kill (average 1.41), the dark claw at 1/25, an ensouled demon head at 1/10, a jar of darkness at 1/200, and an uncut onyx at 1/1,000.

He is also the only monster in the game that drops the shield left half directly (no clue scroll requirement), and on Konar tasks he drops the brimstone key at 1/56. The big draw for pet hunters is Skotos at 1/65 — one of the friendliest boss pet rates in the game.

Average kill value sits around 163,000 gp, which with totem farming overhead still makes Skotizo a solid mid-level boss for ironmen and mains alike. Stack your totems for a Skotizo session and you can chain kills quickly.

05

Combat Achievements

Skotizo carries several Combat Achievement tasks, the most notable being 'Demon Evasion' — kill him without taking any damage. It requires learning the altar timing so you never tank a hit, and it is one of the easier elite-tier CAs to complete once the rhythm clicks.

Other tasks revolve around killing him with no altars active and using demonbane weapons. See our dedicated Demon Evasion guide for the step-by-step no-damage strategy, and our Combat Achievements overview for how CA tiers unlock rewards.
