OSRS Fight Caves No Cooldown & August 2026 Quality of Life Changes
The August 12 2026 update removed the Fight Caves re-entry cooldown, increased the Rune Essence Pouch drop rate from Abyssal Guardians (1 in 42 to 1 in 8) and Abyssal Walkers (1 in 42 to 1 in 5), improved bonfire mechanics, removed ToB party cooldown, reduced Chivalry drain rate, and removed thrall immunity from Menaphite Akh. The Maggot King Speed Chaser CA was also moved to Grandmaster tier.
Key takeaways
- Fight Caves re-entry cooldown removed — leave and re-enter immediately with no wait.
- Rune Essence Pouch drop rate: 1 in 8 from Abyssal Guardians (up from 1 in 42), 1 in 5 from Abyssal Walkers (up from 1 in 42).
- Bonfire improvements: new 'Tend to' option, streamlined log-adding interface, no more persistent hand-warming animation.
- Theatre of Blood party creation cooldown removed for faster raid organization.
Fight Caves: No More Waiting
One of the most welcome quality-of-life changes: you can now re-enter the Fight Caves immediately after leaving, with no cooldown. Previously, leaving the Fight Caves — whether to resupply, take a break, or recover from a failed attempt — required waiting before you could start a new run. This is particularly valuable for players learning the Inferno, who often need to step away between attempts, and for players farming Fire Capes who want to chain runs efficiently.
The change also benefits players practicing specific waves or testing gear setups, as they can now reset instantly without the artificial wait time. This brings the Fight Caves in line with modern OSRS content where cooldowns between instances have been progressively removed.
Rune Essence Pouch: Massively Increased Drop Rate
The Rune Essence Pouch, a crucial item for Runecraft training, received a significant drop rate buff. From Abyssal Guardians, the rate increased from 1 in 42 to 1 in 8 — a 425% increase. From Abyssal Walkers, it went from 1 in 42 to 1 in 5 — a 740% increase.
Additionally, the Light and Heavy Ranged Defence of Abyssal Guardians and Walkers was reduced to 0 (down from 70-75), and the Crush Defence of Abyssal Guardians was also reduced to 0. This makes these monsters much easier to kill with ranged and crush weapons, speeding up the farming process significantly.
For ironman accounts, this is a game-changing update. The Rune Essence Pouch was previously a major bottleneck for Runecraft training, often requiring hours of camping Abyssal creatures. Now it is attainable in a fraction of the time.
Bonfire Improvements
The bonfire Firemaking training method received several quality-of-life improvements. A new 'Tend to' option lets you add more logs to an existing bonfire. If you have one type of log in your inventory, the system now adds them directly without showing the Make-X interface. If you have multiple types, the Make-X interface still appears to let you choose. The hand-warming animation no longer persists once you run out of logs.
These changes make bonfire training feel much smoother. The removal of the redundant Make-X prompt for single-log-type inventories saves clicks per hour, and the fixed animation behavior prevents the awkward situation where your character appears to be warming hands at an empty fire pit.
Other Notable Changes
Several other changes round out the update. The Theatre of Blood party creation cooldown has been removed entirely, making it faster to organize raids. Chivalry's prayer drain rate was reduced to match Deadeye and Mystic Vigour (1 point per 3 seconds), making it a more viable training prayer. The Menaphite Akh in Beneath Cursed Sands no longer has thrall immunity, which speeds up the quest.
The Knight Waves Training Ground no longer resets your progress if you leave through the door. The Portal Nexus was fixed to no longer teleport you to the wrong destination after changing configured teleports. And the Maggot King Speed Chaser Combat Achievement was moved up to Grandmaster tier to better reflect its difficulty — players who already unlocked it may need to speak to Ghommal or Laidee Gnonock to reobtain the Grandmaster Helm.
- ToB party cooldown removed — organize raids faster.
- Chivalry drain rate reduced to 1 point per 3 seconds.
- Menaphite Akh no longer immune to thralls.
- Knight Waves Training Ground progress preserved on exit.
- Portal Nexus teleport destination bug fixed.
- Maggot King Speed Chaser CA moved to Grandmaster tier.
