OSRS Easy Gauntlet guide 2026: the five rooms, what to bring and what you get

The Easy Gauntlet is a quest-gated PvM instance made of five sequential rooms: goliaths, gargoyles, infernals, chaos demons, and finally the TzHaar brothers Kal'Zuk and Kal'Tik. Each room asks for a different combat style — melee for the goliaths and the gargoyles, melee or magic for the infernals (a slow 3.0-second hit speed), ranged or magic for the chaos demons, and magic for the TzHaar pair. You can pick which rooms to fight on each entry, so you can work through them one at a time instead of clearing the whole instance. Easy mode is the lower reward tier, so the value is not in what you drop — it is in learning every room's mechanic safely, with no preparation cost beyond the food and gear you would already bring. Bring prayer, food sized to the hardest room you are entering, and enough inventory to switch between melee, ranged and magic without running back to a bank.

Key takeaways

  • Five rooms in order: goliaths, gargoyles, infernals, chaos demons, then Kal'Zuk and Kal'Tik.
  • One style per room — melee for goliaths and gargoyles, melee or magic for infernals, ranged or magic for chaos demons, magic for the TzHaar pair.
  • Rooms are selectable per entry, so you can clear one or two at a time instead of the full instance.
  • Easy mode is the lower reward tier — the payoff is learning the mechanics safely, not the items.
  • Bring prayer, food sized to your hardest room, and enough inventory to swap styles mid-run.
01

What the Gauntlet is

The Gauntlet is a quest-gated PvM instance rather than an open area: you cannot walk into it, you have to qualify for it and then enter through the instance entrance. It is organised as a sequence of combat rooms that each test a different part of your kit, and the Easy track is the lighter of the two difficulty tiers — lower rewards and a more forgiving pace, but the same rooms and the same mechanics.

That structure is the reason a room-by-room guide is useful here at all. A single 'bring good gear' line of advice does not work, because the room that wants melee is a bad time to stand there with ranged equipment.

02

The five rooms, in order

Room one is goliaths — a melee room. Goliaths are slow and deliberate, so the value is in steady damage and keeping food in check rather than in reaction speed.

Room two is gargoyles — also melee. They hit harder than the goliaths and punish long cast times, which makes melee more efficient here than it is in the earlier room.

Room three is infernals, with a 3.0-second hit speed. The slow hit interval means you can do meaningful damage between incoming hits, and either melee or magic works; the slow hits are exactly what magic is good for.

Room four is chaos demons, and this is the first room that wants you to leave melee behind. Ranged or magic keeps you at a distance the melee options do not give you.

Room five is the TzHaar brothers — Kal'Zuk and Kal'Tik together. Magic is the standard style for this room, and it is the hardest of the five to clear reliably.

03

What to bring

Size your food to the hardest room you are entering, not to the easiest one. The front rooms will teach you nothing about the amount of food the back rooms consume, so plan for the room you actually intend to clear.

Bring both protective prayers you might need and enough inventory space to switch between melee, ranged and magic without returning to a bank. If you run out of a style mid-instance you have to abandon the run, and inventory management is the most common reason people fail the later rooms.

Carry more than one food type. The cheapest food that holds your HP through the room you are targeting is the right choice — bringing premium food for a melee goliath room is a tax on a room you should be clearing on the cheap.

04

Team roles

A group smooths the later rooms considerably. The practical split is one player committed to the melee rooms with defence-heavy gear and steady food, and another player who switches styles for the ranged and magic rooms so the party is never caught with the wrong equipment.

Because you can select which rooms to fight on entry, a group can also work deliberately: clear the melee rooms in the first entry, then the ranged and magic rooms in the second. That is usually faster than one player pushing the whole instance end to end and failing at room five.

05

Rewards and what comes next

Easy mode is the lower reward tier of the Gauntlet. Item drops are limited here, and the valuable items belong to the harder track. Treat Easy mode as tuition: it is where you learn the room mechanics, the food economy and the style switches without risking the preparation the harder track demands.

The right way to use this guide is therefore as a checklist before you step up. If you can clear all five rooms on Easy with food and prayer to spare, you are ready to look at the harder track — and if you are dying at room five specifically, you are not ready, and more Easy runs are the fix.

Questions players ask

Questions players ask

What is the Easy Gauntlet in OSRS?+

The lighter of the two Gauntlet difficulty tiers — a quest-gated PvM instance of five sequential rooms with the same mechanics as the harder track but lower rewards and a more forgiving pace.

What are the five Gauntlet rooms?+

In order: goliaths, gargoyles, infernals, chaos demons, and finally the TzHaar brothers Kal'Zuk and Kal'Tik.

Which combat style should I use in each Gauntlet room?+

Melee for goliaths and gargoyles, melee or magic for infernals, ranged or magic for chaos demons, and magic for Kal'Zuk and Kal'Tik.

Can I fight only some Gauntlet rooms?+

Yes — you can select which rooms to fight on entry, so you can clear one or two rooms at a time instead of running the full instance.

Is the Easy Gauntlet worth it for items?+

No. Easy mode is the lower reward tier and item drops are limited. Its value is learning the mechanics and food economy safely before stepping up to the harder track.
