OSRS Deadman permanent world: August changes explained

On August 5, 2026 Jagex shipped a major tweak pass for the permanent Deadman world (World 345). Bank keys and bank item loss on death were removed, stockpiling charms now note resources to the inventory, and Deadman's Chests now spawn hourly and require risking at least 250,000 GP of alchemy value to open, with rewards including Ancient Warrior armour, the rare Dogsword and Tier 5 emblems. Charms now work inside the looting bag, Archaic Emblems tiers 1 and 5 became tradeable on the Grand Exchange, PK fees rose significantly, and kills in single-way combat now grant one minute of PvP immunity.

Key takeaways

  • Death no longer risks bank items; bank keys are gone.
  • Deadman's Chests spawn hourly and require a 250k GP alch-value risk to open.
  • Charms function inside the looting bag with distinct effects.
  • Tier 1 and Tier 5 Archaic Emblems are now GE-tradeable.

Death and banking rule changes

The update removed two long-standing risk mechanics on the permanent Deadman world: bank keys no longer drop, and death no longer removes items stored in the bank. Stockpiling charm behaviour changed with it — resources are now noted into the inventory rather than sent to the bank. Together these changes shift risk away from stored wealth and toward what a player is actively carrying and risking in PvP.

This is a structural change to how the mode feels. Planning around bank-key defence used to be part of high-value Deadman play; that entire category of activity is gone, and replacement decisions now revolve around chest risks, emblem trades and carry risk.

02

Deadman's Chests: spawn rate, risk and rewards

Deadman's Chests now spawn once per hour. Opening one requires risking at least 250,000 GP of alchemy value, which keeps chests tied to genuine item risk rather than free participation. Announced rewards include Ancient Warrior armours with a 20 Defence requirement, the very rare Dogsword, and Tier 5 emblems.

The hourly cadence creates scheduled contest windows. If you plan to contest chests, the relevant preparation is liquid risk capital and an exit route, not bank organisation — the new death rules mean your bank is no longer the thing you are defending.

  • Spawn rate: hourly.
  • Entry risk: at least 250,000 GP alchemy value.
  • Rewards: Ancient Warrior armours (20 Defence), Dogsword (very rare), Tier 5 emblems.
03

Charms in the looting bag

Charms now function while stored in the looting bag. The announced effects are distinct per charm: Nimbleness grants unlimited run energy and prevents prayer drain; Vulnerability heals the holder for 10% of damage dealt; Accumulation adds a plank or log toggle and triples Chinchompa XP. Keeping charms effective from inside the bag removes the old trade-off between charm utility and bag protection.

04

Economy and PvP adjustments

Several economy levers moved at once. Archaic Emblem tiers 1 and 5 became tradeable on the Grand Exchange, giving liquid markets at both ends of the emblem progression. Void Knight gear is now sold in a broken state, the Ancient Sceptre, blighted surge sacks and Fairy Tale quest lamps were added to the Emblem Trader, and the Nightmare Staff's HP requirement was removed. PK fees increased significantly, which raises the cost of repeated successful PKing.

On the combat side, kills in single-way combat zones now grant the killer one minute of PvP immunity, shown in chat. Raid logouts are treated as standard raid deaths rather than Deadman deaths, and impossible Combat Achievements were disabled for the mode. The immunity timer changes post-kill behaviour: the immediate re-engage window that made multi-kill chains possible is now protected, at least in single-way areas.

What these changes mean for different players

For PKers, the package raises friction costs (higher PK fees) while adding scheduled objectives (hourly chests) and post-kill protection in single-way. For farmers, the removed bank risk and tradeable low-tier emblems change what is worth producing and liquidating. For returning players, the mode is now less punishing about stored wealth and more about active risk decisions.

As always with game-mode economies, wait for live Grand Exchange evidence before treating any of these items as investments. Tradeability changes create new price discovery, and early prices on newly tradeable tiers can be volatile.
